The "Landing Incident" at Barangay Valencia. .

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

ph_locator_map_leyte.jpg

BARANGAY VALENCIA, a part of Ormoc City in the Eastern Visayan Province of Leyte, is very much typically rural much like any other barangays in the country.
But an unexpected event one early morning in 1984 brought the Barangay in the pages of the national dailies when four young school children witnessed an unusual aerial phenomenon. . .

Based on the published report in one of the national dailies that came out  on April 21, 1984, the boys all saw what seemed to be a ". . .mysterious vehicle, which was shaped like an inverted giant saucer and glowing with instense light, silently hovering before it "landed" on an open field. . ."

". . . before its belly could touch the field, six "feet" slowly came out of the object and then it landed,". . .according to one of the boys.
A few minutes later, the object simply took off again "just as silently as it landed", leaving markings on the ground which were witnessed by school teachers headed by one MR .GERRY FUENTES and a NARDS MELENDRES, said to be a local journalist who had the incident reported initially in the weekly paper, The Reporter

A local professional photographer was summoned to take photographs of the affected area as documentary evidence of the purported incident.

THE REPORT:  SYNOPSIS OF THE EVENT

In the early morning of March 2 that year, four grade 5 school children namely: RAMON CATAAG; RICHEL BASMAYOR; GREGORIO SALINAS; and BERNARDINO TACOY- all 12 years of age from the Valencia Elementary School in the barangay, happened to be the unexpected witnesses to an anomalous aerial phenomenon which they described to be a large object resembling a "clam shell" slowly descend in the nearby open farm field across a small creek by the side of the school buidling.
The four school children were requested by their teacher to fetch water from the creek for the plants while the rest of the school children readied themselves for the usual flag-raising ceremony.

REMARKS

With the cooperation of the (now defunct) Divine Word University in Tacloban City, PROF. ROSENDA TIU-CINCOFLORES of the Physics Department assisted us in our visit to Barangay Valencia, Ormoc City, in the summer of 1987.
By this time, we were able to locate and conduct an interview of 2 of the original witnesses- the grade school boys who were by then already in the High School.  Contrary to the report of the object being silent as it "flew" out of sight, the witnesses alleged that the object did make a sound "which was heard of by almost everybody in the school grounds". . .

We walked to the open field to visit the area where the object was reported to have actually "landed".   Within the vicinity of the field stood a house where the occupant remembered that during the day of the "incident", her toddler child stopped playing and whose attention seemed to have been caught by, and directed to, something "out in the field".

The event transpired 3 years earlier so that by now any "trace elements" or other aspects that may have been left by the object in this CE-2 case would have been totally obliterated by weather and natural elements.
We were, however, able to secure copies of the photographs from the original negatives when they were used to document the event as it happened that early morning of March 1984.
